St. Augustine was born in Africa Tagaste in Numidia - now Souk-Ahras in Algeria - 13 November 354 to a family of small landowners. From the mother receives a Christian education, but after reading the Hortensius of Cicero embraces the philosophy by adhering to the neck. It dates back to 387 the trip to Milan, the city where St. Ambrose knows. The meeting proved to be important for the faith journey of Augustine is baptized by Ambrose. Later he returned to Africa with the desire to create a community of monks after the death of his mother goes to Hippo, where he was ordained priest and bishop. His works on theology, mystical, philosophical and controversy - the latter reflecting the intense Augustine takes the fight against heresies, which devotes most of his life - are still studied. Augustine for his thought, contained in books like "Confessions" or "City of God", has earned the title of Doctor of the Church. While Augustine is besieged by the Vandals, in 429 the saint became seriously ill. He died Aug. 28 in 430 at age 76.

Dear friends,
at the end of this great spiritual journey, which was made in the film we've seen, I feel bound to say thanks to all those who have given us this vision. Thanks to the Bavarian Television for their efforts - and is a great joy rather casual remark made three years ago, was the beginning of a journey that has led to this magnificent representation of the life of Saint Augustine. Thanks to Lux Vide and thanks to Rai for this project.
In fact, it seems to me that the film is a spiritual journey to a continent away from us very spiritual and yet very close to us, because the human drama is always the same. We have seen how, in a context for us very far, you are representing the whole reality of human life, with all problems, sorrows, failures, and the fact that, ultimately, the truth is stronger than any obstacle and find the man. This is the great hope of remaining at the end: we can not find their own truth, but the truth, which is people, there is. Externally, the life of Saint Augustine seems to end so tragic: the world for which he lived and where it ends, is destroyed. But as has been said here, his message remained, and even changes in the world, it continues, because it comes from the Truth and guidance to the Charity, which is our common destination.
